Thomas Shaffer,
Tom (Thomas William) Shaffer, age 78, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. Tom was born in Elwood City, PA, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953. Tom moved to Phoenix, Arizona following his high school graduation and attended Arizona State University. He graduated in 1959 with his BA and in 1963 with his MA degree. Tom was a graduate instructor at ASU and taught high school science at Scottsdale High School and Round Valley High School in Eagar, Arizona during the years 1964 to 1967. During Tom's career, he published over 40 academic papers. Tom served on the Arizona Education Association professional staff for thirty years in various positions including legal programs and government relations. During his retirement, Tom was involved in consulting with the three state universities assisting in student government matters, and mentoring/advising student officers. Tom is survived by his brother John (Jack) [Nellie] Shaffer; nephews, Larry Shaffer, Sam Shaffer, Samuel Schrup; nieces, Terri [Dan] Yaromey, Patti [John] Fennell; and several grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Tom is preceded in death by his father, Sam Shaffer; mother, Christina Dolter Shaffer; and sister, Linda Shaffer (Schrup). Celebration of Life services will be held Friday, November 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Danforth Chapel, Arizona State University Tempe campus.

Thomas W. Shaffer, 78 of Phoenix, AZ passed away in Phoenix on October 22, 2014.

Born in Ellwood City on August 4, 1936, Thomas was the son of the late Samuel and Christina Dolter Shaffer. He had retired from the Arizona Education Association.

Thomas is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, John and Nellie Shaffer of Fombell.

Besides his Parents, Thomas was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Schrup.

Graveside Services will be offered for Thomas at Wurtemburg Cemetery on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 11:30 AM by Rev. Dr. Daniel Stinson of Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church.

Local arrangements were entrusted to the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory.
