       Gerald Koach Carothers widely known as "Jerry" was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania on September 6, 1935 and passed away at his residence in Florence, Kentucky on August 14, 2013 at the age of 77.  He was the son of the late David Robert and Anna Louise Koach Carothers but was raised by his Aunt and Uncle, Clarence and Hilda MacDonald.

       On July 26, 1958, Jerry was united in marriage with Norma Jean Tritt.  From this union two sons were born: Brian Carothers and his wife, Karen of Richwood, Kentucky and Eric Carothers and his wife, Heather of Grove City, Pennsylvania.  In addition to his loving wife and sons, Mr. Carothers is survived by his brother, Merlin Carothers and his wife, Mary of San Marcos, California; his brother-in-law, Gilbert Tritt and his wife Joann of Katy, Texas; his sister-in-law, Mary Jane Leroy of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren: Brian Carothers of Nashville, Tennessee, Lauren Carothers of Richwood, Kentucky, Jenna Carothers of Richwood, Kentucky, Catherine Carothers of Grove City, Pennsylvania and Jonathan Carothers of Grove City, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews.

       A member of the Florence United Methodist Church,. Jerry was a retired purchasing manager for Billco Manufacturing in Pennsylvania.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 through 1957.

       Funeral services for Mr. Carothers will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Florence United Methodist Church, 8585 Old Toll Road, Florence, KY 41042.  Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 P.M. till 2:00 P.M. on Saturday.  Additional services and burial will be held in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania later.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Florence United Methodist Church.  Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, 14635 Walton-Verona Rd, Verona, Kentucky 41092 are in charge of local arrangements.

 

 

 

Gerald 'Jerry' Carothers, 77, of Florence, Kentucky, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, after a brief illness. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Born September 6, 1935, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late David and Anna Koach Carothers and was raised by his aunt and uncle, the late Clarence and Hilda MacDonald.

Following graduation from Lincoln High School in 1953, Gerald served three years in the U.S. Army from 1954 -1957. He worked at Billco Manufacturing in Zelienople for almost 35 years, first as a machinist and assemblyman, and later as the purchasing manager. Following his retirement, he moved to Boone County Kentucky, and was an aide in the local school district. He also helped his son with his business. Jerry enjoyed traveling our country with his wife and spending as much time with his family as possible. He loved children and they loved him more.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Norma Jean Tritt Carothers; two sons, Brian (Karen) Carothers of Richwood, Kentuck and Eric (Heather) Carothers of Grove City; five grandchildren, Brian Douglas, Lauren and Jenna Carothers, and Catherine and Jonathan Carothers; his older brother, Merlin (Mary) Carothers of San Marcos, CA; brother-in-law, Gilbert (Joann) Tritt of Katy, TX; sister-in-law, Mary Jane LeRoy of Ellwood City and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, David Bert Carothers.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon in the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City. Pastor Jean Smith of the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church will officiate.

Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard.Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery
